The school of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, established in 1997, is a foundational scientific research and teaching-oriented college based on the construction of the National Talent Training Base for Sciences and Teaching (“National Science Base” for short). College primarily aims to train talents in basic research and high-tech fields in the areas of biological sciences, biotechnology, and food sciences for the country. In 2021, it was selected as the National Base for the Training Program 2.0 for Top Students in Basic Disciplines of Biological Sciences.

College includes nine departments, i.e., Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Food Science and Engineering, Plant Science, Zoology, Microbiology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Computational Biology. College sets three Undergraduate Programs, namely, Biological Science (also named Science Base Class), Biotechnology (including UBC International Class) and Food Science and Engineering. College offers three undergraduate programs: Biological Sciences (which includes the National Top-notch Program 2.0 Base Class and the Science Base Class), Biotechnology (including UBC International Class) and Food Science and Engineering. It hosts post-doctoral research stations in Biology and Forestry, and possesses a first-level doctoral program in Biology, encompassing six second-level doctoral disciplines: Plant Science, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, and Forest Biological Resources. Additionally, there are two second-level master's disciplines in Genetics and Zoology, a second-level doctoral discipline in Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding under the National Key Discipline of Forestry, and a professional degree authorization point for Forestry Master's program. College also holds a first-level master's program in Food Science and Engineering, granting academic master's degrees in the field, and a professional degree point in the "Food Processing and Safety" domain under the Agricultural Master's program, offering professional master's degrees in food processing and safety.

College has hosted more than 300 projects, such as the National Key Research and Development Program, the Key program General program of National Natural Science Foundation and the Science and Technology Innovation 2030 initiative. College has published more than 700 high-quality research papers in prestigious journals such as Cell and Nature Plants. College has cultivated 18 national and provincial-level superior forest tree varieties, including the internationally renowned "Triploid Poplar" and the world's first triploid eucalyptus. As the leading institution, college has received 11 national science and technology progress awards and 25 provincial and ministerial level science and technology progress awards.

The Undergraduate Teaching Experimental Center of College is equipped with comprehensive and advanced teaching and research instruments and facilities. It serves as a model biological experimental teaching center among Beijing universities and is recognized as an exemplary on-campus innovation practice base by the Beijing Municipal Higher Education Institutions. College hosts seven national-level and provincial-level research platforms, including a State Key Laboratory and a National Engineering Research Center. Additionally, it operates two "111" Innovative Talent Recruitment Bases.

So far, college contains more than 135 school faculty and staff members, of which more than 106 serve as full-time teachers, including 47 professors, 42 associate professors, and 60 teachers with doctoral degrees. The faculty is robust, boasting a well-balanced knowledge and age structure. Among the full-time professors, we highlighted here some of the outstanding members: one Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one member of the State Council's Academic Degrees Committee, nine scholar national high-level talents, four winners national high-level young talents, two scholar national key research and development young scientists, two winners young talents supported by the China Association for Science and Technology, two scholar leading talents of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, five winners young top-notch talents of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and two scholar innovation teams of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
